WikiBuddy App Reviews

The best wikipedia front end

… but yet not perfect. Still, its a good way to surf wikipedia without using a web browser: easy to read, nice interface with some interesting functions (like the index of the article at the bottom), search directly from the menu bar… I hope the dev will read this since I would like him/her to add some functions like: The ability to change the font of articles text The ability to download full sized image directly from the app (for now you have to copy the link and go to the browser) Fixed width for the articles (there are stylish -the add-on for firefox- scripts that do that for instance) Otherwise, it deserves 4 stars for the overall experience :)

Font size?

No way to increase the font size. That makes this app useless for me.

Wishlist

- shortcut - mouse gestures to browse forward/backward - german translation

Almost perfect

It has a sepia background so its easy on the eyes. You can increase the Font size up to 20% more than enough. However its missing one thing. It has no keyboard shortcut. Add the Keyboard shortcut and it might be perfect.

It’s all right

This app works good but it turns out that anyone can write in wikipedia so I no longer thrust what is on wikipedia. However this is a review of Wikibuddy not wikipedia, this app works good

Great app

Great way to browse wikipedia. 5 stars

Great Wiki App!

It is really really an awsome app! Simple and helpful, because I can search whatever I want without disgusting "computer errs"!

This is the cats meow

Ive tried a bunch of these wikipedia apps, and this one is the best! OSX in style and ease of use, stable and flexible. Highest recommendations!

Very good app!

This is a very good app! Quick to do what it says it will do I am very happy with it.. I like that I dont even have to open a browser to use it too. Thanks!

This App is the best (so far) for Wikipedia

I like it andhave been using it more than WikiBot. It is fast and does the job better than WikiBot. I give it 5 stars and wish I could give it more!

Largest font is too small

The largest font set in the preference is not as large as I expected. I think it is reasonable and not too difficult to let users choose much larger fonts.

Finally

I have been wanting a good Wiki app for OS X. Finally its here! Only gripe I have is the 3-finger swipes left/right (on trackpad) do not do serve as gestures for going back/forward in your navigation history like as in web browsers, Finder etc. Plaease fix that and this will be the ultimate Wiki app! Oh, one more thing. It needs a global hotkey for search. I see the app description implies there is on, but I cant find it.

Promissing

Good functionality. Needs the ability to enlarge font size, current default size is too small for older eyes.

Good, but could be better

EDIT: FOUND HOTKEY! After much searching and wanting, the hotkey is shift + command + E and can be changed in the Services menu! Works as advertised! 5 STARS AWARDED FOR BEST WIKI APP! -Would still want a quick search button, where I dont have to highlight a word and could just quickly access the search bar. This is one of the best wiki apps, and would be amazing with a hotkey (FOUND READ ABOVE) assigned like the description implies. Also, emailing the developer doesnt seem to get a response. Otherwise great for quick searching, better than all the other free apps. Its apps like this that really improve my productivity, as I feel like looking things up is just easy, fast, and well organzed. Thanks!

Well done

Much more elegant and useful than the other Wikibrowsers I tried. Thanks!

Pop-ups

I dont like the pop-ups

Simple & Useful

Great app, doing its job, lightweight, perfect.

Works Beuatifully with Hot Key

This is one is really great, works as advertised. As for hot key, it took me a while to figure out how it works. First highlight the word to search with fast double tap or highlight more words with shift key combo. Then press <Cmd><Shift>E, which opens up a small popup that returns possible results. When you click one of the results, it open up the WiKi Buddy popup with full details.

Great Hot Key Function

The most tedious part about searching certain things through Wikipedia is actually going to the website and typing in what you’re searching for. This app basically eliminates that and provides a convenient hot key search function (Shift+Command+E) by highlighting the words to search. Very convenient and has provide me a better way to look up words in a quick/effiecient way.

Excellent

I won’t rehash what others have written - WikiBuddy is quick and extremely convenient. Buy it. The only thing that’s frustrating about this app is the font. On a non-retina displays a font like helvetica is just plain easier to read than Georgia or whatever font the app uses. Why isn’t there an option?
